Things have gotten really awkward between my dad and I lately and I really want things to get back to how they used to be. I was always really close to him so this is hard on me. If anyone has ideas of things we can to together to help us reconnect id really appreciate it. btw, im 15 and he's 50. we live in WI, so right now it's pretty cold to do things outside.

Your father is feeling his little girl slipping away from him. You are growing up and soon he won't be the hero in your life any longer. This is probably hurting him deeply and causing him to pull within himself. It's not easy for men of his age and generation to accept their feelings.

Now is the time to establish a friendship with him. Seek his advice, talk to him about his day. Let him know that you still adore him even if others are beginning to catch your eye. Let him know you hope to find someone as special as he is to you. Let him know you probably won't but you can dream. Assure him that no one will take his place in your life.

First thing you need to do is have the question you posted here with him. There are no tricks or back doors to sneak into in relationships. Be open and honest, especially with parents.

WOW. You and your dad are having basically the same problem as me and my dad. I'm 15 and my dad is 44, and My dad loves the whole family idea and lately he says I've been growing from him so lately I've just been really funny and have tried to make him laugh and not get an attitude with him (that was my worst problem). Go do something together that you did when you were little or something he enjoys doing even if it is just watching football.

Just talk to your dad. Let him know you don't feel as close and would like to spend more quality time together. He is the adult and should have ideas on where to take it from there.

Talk and tell him exactly what you wrote here. If you trust him he can probably help you with things that are on your mind. He was 15 once you know and probably pretty cool.
