I live in sevier co. Tn. and would love to have a kitten as a pet. I am specifically looking for a female. I would be willing to travel to knoxville or cocke co. to pick up my pet.

If going to the local shelter or looking in the newpaper was working out, I would already have a kitten.

Did you try petfinder.com? I have kittens listed for $15 and they are spay/neutered and up to date on their shots. Most charge more but you can find them at a reasonable price that usually includes the things that you will need to pay for later at a much higher cost. So you will end up saving money.
They have locations all over the US.
Good luck!

It is difficult to believe that you will have problems locating a free kitten by June or July. But this isn't kitten season right now, so there are few available.

But -- "free" kittens are anything but. I joke that the last low cost kitten I got (and this was ten years ago) cost $200 the first couple of months -- in vaccinations, testing (for feline leukemia and FIV), flea treatment, deworming, and after that, another $100 to neuter -- for a $10 cat. It would probably be twice that expensive now.

Rescue groups and humane societies can do this so much cheaper, so I recommend come spring, that you apply to adopt a kitten from them. If you should get turned down, there's something wrong with the way you intend to care for this kitten, and you need to learn from them what they recommend.

Aw, I have recently found a calico kitten in the Wheel well of a car...and after caring for her I'd love to find her a nice home, but I"m in Michigan.

Please consider rescuing an animal from your local animal shelter, you can find one close to you by going to www.petfinder.org and at the top of the site they have a link called "shelter & rescue groups". After following the steps I'm sure you'll find your dream kitty!

Check out shelters and rescue group in your area. Also, kitten season is about to start, so newspapers and bulletin boards should soon be full of "free to good home" ads.
