Yes yes yes yes it would be the greatest! You see for some of us like me, we are already living a life without religion. It is so goood.
Thinking for yourself wow! Living free from ugly fearful thoughts is so good. I think one day people of the future will be laughing at most people gullable-ness of today and the past! Take care and good luck

Ooh, I like gtahvfaith's answer.
But I also have this to say. Read "Brave, New World" by Aldous Huxley and you'll see that the world would not be better without religion.
If religion was eliminated there would be something else to take it's place that would divide people. Probably politics. There has been plenty of fighting for other reasons than religion too. The Romans created a huge empire just because they felt like it.
Not to mention, where would our ideas for morals and values come? I think religion is decreasing already in importance in this world, and look how things have already taken a turn for the worst.
The time that there is an end of religion will be the end of the world.

Since the Neanderthal Period, man has possessed a spiritual dimension in his makeup. However, that does not mean that he/she accepts imperfect religions created by finite beings. By the time a religion has degenerated into dogma, ritual and creed, it is on the way out. It has lost the purity, innocence, and honesty of its earlier days. There must be an infinite force or cause for all that is, but I find human explanations to be less than adequate in explaining the meaning of life. By their very nature, homo sapiens, being natural beings, are very limited in their ability to understand and explain the supernatural.

I don't think the fighting goes on because of religion. War is always about resources, and religion is just a very effective way to sell it to people.
Religion as such is not a bad thing. It gives comfort and purpose to many people and contributes to the welfare of society. Studies have suggested that people who are involved in religion are generally happy, healthy and intelligent people.
There are, of course, extremes. Those are to be avoided, as they are in all things.

With religion, without the godless. By blaming much fighting on religion you are perpetuating a myth, the fact is much more fighting has taken place that has nothing to do with religion.
Stop driving your car and go feed the poor.

Not necessarily. People who are critical of religion usually don't consider ALL the effects that religious beliefs have on a society. We can't know whether society would be better without religion of any kind and it could be worse.

Unfortunately, shutting off religion would also eliminate a significant arena for thought and discovery. You would be eliminating a very important direction of thought. While we could do without the religious practices, the religious thought would be hard to lose.

the simple answer is yes, the world would be better without all religion. but that isn't going to happen because there are too many people willing to kill and mame and destroy to protect their god/gods. trying to ban god would do more harm than good. it is not the evil that "god" does that i fear, it is the evil that men do in god's name. god is a word, it is what people have made that word that is terribly dangerous.
