I think both are very respectable. Why not be a pediatric dentist? You have to consider that when you are in the pediatric field that you have two patients, the patient and the parents. One or the other can be difficult but both can sometimes be horrible!

Well while I'm neither :) both sound like respectable professions. Of course in dentistry, the person needs to have great fine motor (small muscles such as in hands) coordination including having a steady hand. Knowledge and competency in the sciences are needed for both. I think that you should go for training wherever you feel more comfortable and not worry about if others will find one more respectable than the other. Just as not all doctors can be dentists, not all dentists can be doctors. It just depends on your interests, skills and passion.

In my opinion, all medical jobs are respectable, but being a pediatrician or doctor is the most respectable. It would be a much bigger help to the community to be a pediatrician, but you will make more money as a dentist.

When I was 10 my dad kept telling me that being a doctor would be a way better, but a few years later I asked him what his opinions were on being a dentist, he said that being a dentist would be just as good. but then he said that being an optemerist would be better. well, let's see what he says when everyone has perfect teeth in a few years... muahahaha!

There is no life threatening injury in Dentistry or Ophthalmology. For me its hard to handle a dying baby in my hands despite of my all efforts to save the innocent life. This is the only dark side of pediatrics otherwise its very lovely to deal with cute innocent children. I'd love to be with children always. Children are the hope! the bright side of the life!

these are two out of the three careers I'm considering. the other is pharmacy. i think the two are both very respectable. They help save and fix lives. It just depends on whether you want to work with kids or adults more. or i guess you could always be a children's dentist of you wanted to.

IF YOU LIVE IN BRITAIN YOU'D BE CALLED MISTER AS A DENTIST, BUT DR. AS A PHYSICIAN.
HERE IN AMERICA, A DOCTOR IS A DOCTOR. WHETHER YOU ARE A PHYSICIAN OR A DENTIST. A PEDIATRICIAN IS A PHYSICIAN THAT SPECIALIZES IN CHILDREN.

Rissa, it's harder to get into dental school than med school. But before I get too cocky, someone please remind me that it's even harder to get into vet school.
