le for masculine words
la for feminine words
skating (on ice) = le patin à glace
skating (on roller skates) = le patin (à roulettes)/ le roller
ski pole= le bâton de ski
long johns= le caleçon long/ les caleçons longs but usually used as a plurial as in "Il aime les caleçons longs." for "He likes long johns."
tuque= la tuque
It is the same word and used specifically in Canada. In France it would just be "le bonnet en laine", "le bonnet de laine" or "le bonnet".

Oh!!!! I've just checked what it looks like, and if that's a woollen hat (or any type of fabrix, but used in the winter to protect the head and the ears), then it's "un bonnet". Une "tuque" is Canadian French.
