It means he wants to know if the damage to the inside of the cheeks is caused by you biting them

Because you know when they num your mouth you can't feel pain like you do its not num. So there making sure your not bitting your lips, cheeks, or tounge while they have your mouth numed up. No dentist wants somebody walking out of their chair with bites all in their mouth.

BECAUSE HE NOTICES AREAS OF TRAUMA INSIDE YOUR CHEEKS. MOST LIKELY THIS HAPPENED WHEN YOU WERE EATING OR WHEN YOU SLEPT.
HOWEVER, IF THIS HAPPENED WHEN YOU WERE GETTING A FILLING YOUR MOUTH MIGHT HAVE BEEN NUMB SO YOU COULDN'T FEEL YOUR CHEEK WHEN YOU BIT DURING THE PROCEDURE.
