If YOU want to start eating meat, do it. Start with small portions of white meat, take it slow, and expect some stomach problems at first. There's an enzyme that your body is not producing at the moment and must get used to produce so you can digest meat properly.
However, I don't think you should do this just to please your friends. If they really are your friends, they'll accept you and your choices. If you change your eating habits against your own conscience, just to fit in, you're only going to make yourself unhappy for no good reason.
Also, think about where this might lead. What else would you be willing to do to fit in with your friends? Just be an individual and stand by your choices. Your friends will respect you for it.
If they keep asking you questions, just answer them . eventually their curiosity will be satisfied. Or, if their questions really bother you, tell them you don't want to discuss it and refer them to Wikipedia or http://vegetarian.about.com/ .
You have to do what you want - but make sure it's truly what YOU want, not what your friends have pressured you into.
Good luck! :)

Vegetarians will not be used to digesting meat and you may feel sick...but that doesnt seem to be your problem...sounds like a mental thing...
reminds me of a story
there was once a buddhist monk who went to a friend's dinner party at the last minute...
The host had neglected to prepare vegetarian plate for the monk so all that really was availible was rice. The host was most distrubed by this and apollogized over and over to the monk. Seeing the distress of the host the monk took a peice of meat for and dish and ate it.
Some people saw this with great shock and asked why he would do such a thing. Didn't he commit some great sin?
the Monk smiled and said i eat this meat because the cow is already dead and my friend is here and alive.
Animals eat animals. Would you say a wolf is evil for eating a rabbit? Food is just food. Don't over coomplicate the matter. Don't be too attatched to anything which would only bring about your own suffering.
personaly i just stay away from veal. Every animal is butchered with pain. just think how terrible it is for the rabbit to be eatin alive but a wolf. Veal just seems to be extra cruel that i don't think is necessary. that just right for me.
do whats right for you..whatever feels natural...either way you go

Stick with what you believe in! If people make comments, or ask you why you don't eat meat, just say because you don't like the taste.
I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of meat and the reason that is, is because I don't want to eat meat. I don't feel like it.
You don't have to eat something you don't want to, for whatever reason. Tell those rude people to mind their own business.

well to avoid too much of a shock to your body from the sudden influx of nutrition, you should start with Asian dishes, which use a lot of veggies, and use meat basically for flavoring (can also mix tofu into it as well, to further lessen the shock) once you get used to that, you might start with something light, like broiled fish, then progress to say grilled chicken breast, and then on to stews and such with beef, before adding straight beef to the diet. BUT, don't change your diet because of your friends, if you choose to change to including meat in your diet (and I personally recommend it for health reasons) you should do so because you think this is a good thing for you. Friends are important, but they can't live your life for you.
