The Stigmata has only occured twice since the death of Christ. The importance of Stigmata is someone sharing the suffering of Christ. To receive the Stigmata is an honour and should be treated with the greatest respect.

It's only possible to accept Stigmata if you believe in the christian god AND believe that this god intervenes directly in our lives - many christians deny this and hold the belief that although everything that happens ultimately stems from god, she doesn't directly step in to change things.
Personally I'm not a believer so I think every reported case of stigmata must be either untrue or have some physical explanation.

I have not had any experience of this but I do know that the mind is capable of doing amazing things to the body so I suppose it is possible that a person with a strong enough will to have it happen may have it happen to them. However having said that I am sure that in most if not all of the manifestations of this there is some physical cause of the actual wounds.

The mind is both hugely powerful, and equally gullible. If it happened to Atheists in the pub, or Hindus, I would consider the evidence. Until then it is a con-trick.

No, I don't. I've seen the phenomenon in person and saw nothing that convinced me it was of a supernatural origin. There was too much concealment and hidden movement. It smacked of a magic trick.

Not like in the film but there was Padre Pio who died in 1969, he was a genuine stigmatist.
