How do I get ashes out of a candle in its holder?

My husband unwisely used a candle in a glass container as an ashtray for his pipe. Can anyone tell me how to get the ashes out of the candle? I would like to save it if I can.

if you just want the ashes out, light the candle, and scoop the liquid wax along with the ashes out.

I know that if you put the entire candle (holder and all) in the freezer, it will pop the candle out if it has been burned and is stuck. I am not certain if this will help with the ashes. Hope so! :)
