I mean, if ghosts exist, why is it that they`re always from so long ago? If a ghost is a trapped spirit or an "impression" recorded on the area it appears, surely this would be stronger closer to the event and would weaken with time?

in some African traditions, there are 2 types of dead: the recently departed, those who are still remembered by those who knew them who still live... and those who are truly dead, who died long enough ago that no one alive today remembers them.
maybe those still in living memory don't need to "haunt" as much, because they are remembered.

you are right that it is an impression and it would make sense yes that it would weaken with time
and it often does in well lived areas as new energy is imprinted
but most of the famous ghosts are kept alive by the energy of others ... people feed the energy so to speak
this is why people like Anne Boleyn are still reported

No, I think they get more powerful the longer they've been hanging around. An 80's ghost would rule though. He'd watch John Hughes movies with me all day.

I think we get spirits from all time eras. Its just that the ones from long ago are more interesting to people. Sylvia brown talks to recently decesed people all of the time.

i think you do get 80s ghosts, people see their relatives.. i would think the spirit would get stronger as it gets more frustrated at being trapped... they probably spend the first few years floating round spying on people, then they get bored and stronger as they try to flee this earthly realm...
