why are you reading the old testament? that has to deal w/ that part in time, not now. we did not live then so we cannot judge nor draw a conclusion why God would ask for such acts.
we are in the new testament, that is what you should know and understand.
to try and read, understand, follow the rules that are no longer meant for you will just cause confusion.

You just explained a great evil. Are you now guilty of it because you said the words? When Babylon can down on Judah this is what they did to the people. God saw it in the hearts of the evil doers and warned the people through the prophet Isaiah. Still they wouldn't turn from their own sin and back to God so He let this disaster fall on Judah.... Jim

You have to read that in context of the fact that those people, the Babylonians, were abominations to God. You also understand what a prophesy is??? You do understand what a horror of war is, this is a prophesy that shows the particular anger of God, and it even shows whom will do such things, the Medes!
Check your next verse, Isaiah 13:17. This is also, OT, it is Jewish history only. Thank God for Jesus, we are free from the Law by the NT.

When Father God gave man the right to choose whom to serve and man decided to serve satan first, we gave up the right to blame Father God for anything. What you are reading is a prophet explaining to Israel how inhuman other nations will be to them because they chose not to trust Almighty God. These are the Words of the Maker of the Universe, His universe not ours but we treat it as if we can do with it as we please. We act toward our fellowman just as the scripture you read and found so appaling. See the Sudan, see Indonesia, see China, see India, see the abortion clinics of America, see the streets of L.A and New York and ect., ect, ect. Why are you not appalled at mankind for the way others are treated? Why blame Father God, He offered His Son to make it all better and so many people refused Him. What right do you have to ask why of Father God?
