If your vet isn't able to get you some, you need a new vet. My vet has food for every cat problem.

If there's a pet emergency hospital in your area, ask them. They might know.

There are a lot of cat foods with no artificial preservatives, which is I think what you're looking for. I like Flint River, which you can buy on line, but if you go to a pet food store in an upper class area, you can find others, such as Innova, California Natural, and Mother Nature. Any cat food needs some preservatives, but the natural ones don't use artificial preservatives. I think it's pushing it to say that artificial preservatives weaken the immune system, but I know that there's no reason to feed artificial preservatives if you can avoid it. But some additives are healthy (such as fish oil), so you must have misunderstood what your vet meant.

By the way, don't try to feed your cat just plain meat -- they need more than that, and you need to find out what you will need to add to this for a healthy cat.

No, they do not. Corn is used as a cheap filler, even though it can't be properly digested by cats and causes problems by hiking up the carb level too high. If you want good food, don't look at anything in the grocery stores, go to a pet supplies store and start reading the labels on the bags. Wellness Wellness Core Wysong Vitality Royal Canin Siamese 38 EVO All these are pretty good.

You may like to check out the websites of these companies:

Burns
Royal Canin
Nutros
Hills Science Diet

I am sure all these produce a non-additive cat food. Some are dry foods of the highest quality and I know for certain that Denes is a totally natural food. Check them all out, anyway. If you have a 'fussy eater' for a cat (as I do!) I cannot guarantee she will 'fancy' any of these ... but it's well worth a try!

Good luck!

What additives is vet referring to? Vitamins, minerals, corn, fat, what? Almost every kind of food you buy has some sort of an additive in it. Any special name to this food? Try going to a big grocery store and see what they have for brands. Many are natural now with less fillers. Iams is a good brand, but there are others. Some of the large pet stores carry specialty diets, they may have something for your kitty.

I have 4 FIV+ cats, so I understand about immune systems a bit. Friskies makes a canned food that's just fish that has no additives. Also, just look at the ingredients of cat foods in cans in grocery stores. I've found Figero has Tuna & Mackerol and Vegys and the cats love it. It smells to high heaven, but they love it and its ok for them, so I'll deal.

Poor kitty... I am not kidding when I say, make the kibble yourself. You can actually find recipes online and then just add vitamins as prescribed by the vet. Good luck.

Update:

There's an online store called "Only Natural Pet Store". Here's the link to the cat food they sell, if you don't want to make it yourself.

Online firms sell cat food without additives, but there are some additives which are essential like taurine.

This pet site sells natural cat foods and lists them.

You could also puree the food to help her whilst her gums are recovering.

Try the cat food Iams or Science diet. My vet tells me that is the best and they have it in canned foods. Another thing is when you give your cat the canned food you might want to heat it in the microwave for a few seconds to make the food even softer. Good luck.
