Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it?

It's in Genesis when God was talking to Abraham saying he wouldn't destroy the city if 50 righteous people were found. Abraham whittles God down to 10. I'm not sure of the exact verse. Its about the 12th chapter of Genesis.

It's in the book of Genesis - chapter 18-19 - where Abraham intercedes with God for Sodom and Gomorrah because his nephew, Lot, is living there with his wife and daughters.
Abraham got it down to saving the city for the sake of only 10 righteous people, but not even ten could be found...

This is part of the conversation between Abraham and Father God about the cities of Sodom and Gomarrah. Abraham knew that Lot, his nephew lived there and he wanted Father God to spare his nephew. It is a beautiful story read it in Genesis chapter 18& 19.

The story the others are quoting is probably the one you are thinking of. There is also this verse that speaks to the same subject in Ezekiel 22:29-31.
29The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the alien, denying them justice.
30 "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none. 31 So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD."
In other words, God is looking for somebody who can stand in the gap. Those are both old Testament stories and in the New Testament we are introduced to the person God found to stand in the gap... Jesus. It's very cool to see how God's story unfolds throughout the OT leading up to the NT and is working towards the next coming. Very very cool...
Be blessed!

Gen. 18:23 ff. It is about the destruction of Sodom. Abrahom got down to 10, and the Jews understand that to mean that there have always been 10 righteous men to keep the world from being destroyed. (surely you have scriptures available, so I don't have to type it out? and you can read the context?)
