I'm currently an university student. I received my 1098-T from school. I don't have relatives in the US. I wonder can my boyfriend get tax refund with my 1098-T? (I heard that I can claim myself as his dependent, how does that work?)

PS. We are in different states.

Thank you so much.

No he can not claim your 1098T on his tax return, And if you live in 2 different states he can not claim you as his dependant.

Doing one or both is commiting tax fraud

No. He cannot claim you as a dependent. Among other tests, you would have to have lived with him for ALL of 2006 to be his dependent. Since you are in different states, that's not going to fly with the IRS.

And he cannot use your 1098-T since it's for YOUR tuition, not his.
