I don't think that the real reason that he broke up with you was because he didn't want a gf right now.....I would ask him what the real problem is and then ask him to just give it a chance. I mean what does he have to lose?

maybe he has some financial problems or some family problems, or something. don’t always assume its you. ive seem this many times, and personally experienced it myself. if i said it to a gil, id probably said it because i felt like maybe she's come on to strong, or i like her, but have problems of my own to address.
i think you should probably keep things cool, if you asked him out and he said yes, he likes you. if you came on strong then guys generally run the other way. they see relationships tie them down. just hang out with him for a while, stay as mates, flirt with him. if he's horny, play him. keep him guessing. otherwise he'll get bord. guys like to be kept guessing. but not too much. guys also hate mind games. once he's in the mood, whisper to him, tell him in his ear, right in front of his mates, i want you now, tell him you aint got underwear on ect. one night of passion is great for both of you. keep distant for a while after it. dont cling on, if he's interested he'll come running after you. keep things spontaneous. Other wise he might think its just gonna go down the same route as the last. Once you’ve got him, you’ve got him. Just don’t be like the other girls. It gets so repetitive and boring. He said this, she said that…. You know what I mean. Just be cool about everything. Guys like there distance sometimes. Respect that. Remember its been proven that girls talk twice as much as guys. So half the time he might just want some distance, you know. don’t be insulted because of this. He’s just like any other guy.
hope you find the answer you seek!! good luck with him

He told you he doesn't want a girlfriend right now. Sounds pretty plain to me.

It's part of life. Try to move on and keep your dignity. There will be plenty more.
