Suicide is considered a sin because god put you here for a reason; to live your life. To kill yourself is to flaunt god's will. It is vainity, pride and willfullness.
To be conceived, brought to term and born is such a miracle, the odds of those particular people getting together (your parents) that particular sperm out of millions, that your conciousness exists when nowhere in the universe does such happen, ...astronomical odds. And that a person would choose to throw it all away before the story unfolds. ... after just the first few chapters .. ridiculous!
No wonder god gets angry!

Suicide has been described as "a permanent solution to a temporary problem", and different cultures deal with suicide in different ways. During certain periods in ancient Roman history, for example, suicide was acceptable under certain conditions. According to modern Christianity, it is pretty much never acceptable, for reasons that the Christians have already outlined in pretty good detail.
Are you feeling suicidal? If so, it's important that you get help. Usually the emotional pain that makes people think about committing suicide can be eased or even eliminated entirely with therapy or with prescribed drugs.
When someone is feeling suicidal, it's hard to imagine feeling any other way -- I know because I've been there myself, several times. But if you can hang in there, taking it day to day or even just hour to hour, or minute to minute, eventually the pain WILL start to ease. Again, it's important to get help, either through your regular doctor or by calling a suicide hotline:

Here are some other online support services:

If you're depressed, I find the following chat room has good people in it, even though you're not allowed to discuss overtly suicidal or self-harming behavior there:
http://www.mixednuts.net/
And this might give you a bit of a smile -- Trillian's Psych Humor Page:

If you are suicidal, I hope that you will soon be able to see your way back into the light and happiness. I wish you great strength and the best of luck.

It's not a sin... just not a wise choice as we are here to learn & grow on a soul level.
When you take your own life you have to go through the same things you escaped from by doing what you did.
Ppl that commit suicide always regret their actions when they get to the other side.

Suicide is a sin because you are, in a sense, taking away the gift of life God gave to you. You don't have a right to do that. According to God, we are all here for a reason and until we accomplish what we are set forth to do, we stay here. When we are done, God calls us home.
and if you aren't that religious, then it's like getting a well thought out gift from your closest friend and then trashing it right in front of them. It's just something that is not suppose to happen.

The Standard of YHVH is perfection. (He created this world very good). Since man after sin can no longer make himself very good, YHVH sent the Savior YAHOSHUA to save men from their sins. The only way our sins can be dealt with is for us to invite the Savior in to carry our sins. If we choose not to avail ourselves of His provision, then we choose to remain connected to our sins, in which case we will be burned when they are when this world is cleansed by fire before the Almighty makes it new. How could He be more generous? If a person accepts the Savior as Lord of his life, then he will do those things that the Savior told him to do. He told us not to murder. Therefore to do murder it would seem that one must not have the Messiah for a master. (Sometimes it sounds like a hard thing.) I will assure you of this: In going over the books, no one will be able to say that the Almighty could have been more generous. All will admit that He did the most loving thing He could do.

I'm not sure about christianity but in islam you can be forgiven for every sin if you repent but if you take away your life, there is no way to be repent for that. its the end. Suicide is one of the worst sins you can do in islam....not many people know that.

Suicide is a sin because God does not intend for your life to be taken in an unatural way. He does not want that for you. He wants you to be happy and full of life, not want to end the precious gift of life that He has given to you! People considering suicide should speak to a counselor or pastor.

Part of your problem seems to be that you have no idea what life is suppose to be about. It is not about having fun and being comfortable, it is about having a relationship with God. Until you have that close relationship you will not be able to know what God's purpose for your life is. I can't tell you what it is, because I don't know, but I do know that He has a purpose for you. Maybe that purpose is to clean toilets in the subway and witness to the homeless people there. Or maybe it is a much "nicer" purpose. I don't know, but I know that if God did not have a purpose for your life, you would not take in another breath. See God is not powerless to kill you. He can take your life any time He wants to, so if you live another day, it is because God has ordained it. It is time you got your eyes off of yourself and onto Christ and see why He wants you on this earth.

In my opinion it's not only a sin , but the most selfish thing you can do to the ones who love you . It affects more people than just you , and the person who does it IS a COWARD , for not dealing with problems and life in general. If all else fails turn to the ones you love for help... (that last sentence was not directed at you ) GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DAILY LIFE .

Suicidal isn't a sin unless you ultimately go through with it. I never knew fully why, but I always assumed that suicide is a sin since you're murdering yourself, can't repent, and throwing your gift of life in the face of God.
