Hi: I'm wanting to go organic/natural not only with food but cleansers and what not, mainly products that do not test on animals. My main concern is that I have oily/acne prone skin at the age of 25, I have to use products that contain salicylic acid; currently I'm using Oil of Olay Acne Treament which is working wonders, but I read that the company tests on animals. Does anyone know of a organic/natural alternative to salicylic acid face wash? Something that is not too expensive? Thanks a bunch:)!!

I use this product called Desert Essence Organic Tea Tree Oil Facewash with a drop of jojoba oil and it has helped my skin out. I also have combo (oily around T zone and dry most of the part)and I also break out from time to time . I bought this product from Trader's Joe. i believe they also sell it at whole Food Market, but if there's none around the area, you should check out your local organic store, may be they carry it. or go google Desert Essence. good luck. The price is not expensive if you just want to try out. Before i use this product, i bought so many different brand of acne medication both OTC and prescription and nothing worked. so i decided to giving it a try after i read review on makeupalley.com

Natural Salicylic Acid

Be very careful with how you use aspirin or any other salicylic acid products. Remember, aspirin tablets are NOT NATURAL, and actually go through a series of processes before they hit the shelves. Putting aspirin on your face or anywhere else on your body will cause it to be absorbed into your skin and into your bloodstream, pretty much like swallowing them with a glass of water. Nobody is sure how much of it is absorbed through the skin so be careful.

Use unscented or glycerin based soaps such as Pears on your face, or even a simple mixture of warm water and sea salt. Trust me - if your skin is oily the less you put on it, the better.

There are lots of websites that offer natural alternatives, and most of them come from your own kitchen, such as lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, honey, and even sugar to make a mild facial scrub. You can experiment with things around the home, and research them online to see what effect they might have on controlling your acne. I can't offer you any specific advice because everyone's skin is unique and what worked for me may not work for you.

Right now, I use Pears Soap everyday and I've stopped applying moisturizer ever since I learned that ALL moisturizers, yep, even the oil free ones, clog your skin's pores to some extent. Every few days or so, I do a face scrub with a mixture of almond powder, sea salt, a tiny bit of lavender or tea tree oil and vegetable glycerin. It clears the pores and disinfects the skin.

Good luck and I hope some of this helps. I have another thing to add, watch what you eat and keep yourself hydrated. The skin is the largest organ in the body. You are what you eat - inside and out!

Organic apple cider vinegar is meant to be amazing for all round health. It has been known for centuries for it's many healing and health properties. Google it, I did and came across alot of websites dedicated to it. You'll be amazed that yoiu never knew of it.
I suffer from problem skin too and started adding two tablespoons to a glass of water 3 times a day and I also use it as a toner as advised by a health-store assistant. I have been doing this for 2 weeks now and can't say I have noticed a change yet but will always give everything a chance for 2 months anyway. I'm hoping i'll notice an improvement soon. I will email you in a few weeks and let you know how it's going.

Good for you, for changing your lifestyle. If people only knew what goes into those products, they definitely would not be putting it on their body. Try mixing some green clay with distilled water until you can form a paste, you will have to experiment with quantities. Apply to the skin, keeping away from your eye area, and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm, then cool water. These treatments can be very drying, so they should only be used maybe once a week. You can also try using natures alcohol, good old witch hazel. Also, take a couple of flax oil tablets, they are used for skin problems. I take 3 a day, and have awesome skin. I've even been id'd in vegas!!. I'm 34,by the way. I know what I'm talking about.

Find a willow tree and strip some bark. Soak it in a quantity of water overnight and you've got it! A more common method is to dilute cider vinegar by half and rinse with that! Works wonders as a hair conditioner too!

Asprin contains salicylic acid. You can crush them up, mix with water and make a mask. You can do this a couple times a week to help exfoliate. When you first apply it, rub it a bit to manually exfoliate and then let it sit to dry. Remove with warm water.

You can crush up 6 plain, uncoated aspirin tablets and mix it w/ a little water to make mask.

Or use one of these variations to make a cleanser or mask:

Mixture: 6 crushed aspirins, mixed with the liquid facial cleanser at hand (I usually use either cetaphil or tersaseptic), and 1-2 drops of tea tree oil.

Mix half a teaspoon of crushed tablets with Queen Helene Mint Julep mask and aloe vera gel.

Held 6 aspirin in my palm, and slowly dripped water onto them until they fizzled and dissolved! Once dissolved, I added 2-3 drops of honey into it and mixed it around with my finger. Applied to my face. Keep it on 15-20mins.

Mix 6 aspirin tablets with a little aloe to make a mask.

Use about 6 uncoated tablets, witch hazel, tee trea oil, and aloe to make a thin paste.

For toner:
8 ounce bottle of distilled water add four uncoated aspirin
or
mix of 1/2 water, 1/2 witch hazel, 15 aspirin, and 2 drops of tea tree essential oil and 2 drops of rosemary essential oil

Here's an excellent website that will help you learn about and find cruelty free products (i.e. no animal testing, no animal based ingredients): http://www.caringconsumer.com/
This site has a list of animal ingredients (all the different names) so you can avoid them.

And www.cosmeticscop.com has a guide to/dictionary of ingredients used in make up, shampoo, soap, etc. Here's a direct link: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/dictio...
