Remove the old carpet and pad. Let it air a couple of days and then use this stuff called Kiltz. It is in the paint department of any hardward store. You paint the floor with it just like you would a wall. There is also pad that has an that you can buy that helps with the odors from animals and helps with the bacteria.

You might as well save a lot of work and money and just replace the wood flooring. If the urine odor is soaked into the wood that bad, it needs to be replaced, or the new carpet will take the urine smell as well.

a good quality enzyme cleaner/odor remover. You will really need to drench the area and let it dry naturally for the enzymes to do their job. You may have to repeat the process a couple of times too. You might have to go as far as replacing that area of flooring just like Amy V suggested and had to do. It will be key to let the liquid soak in to the wood as far down as the urine has gone or you will still have odor. something that just gets sprayed on the surface is not going to work. Also, you might try sanding over the top of the area to be treated to allow the liquid to penetrate more efficiently. Good luck!

The most reliable way is to seal the wood, so the odor cannot come through anymore. After you rip up the carpet and the padding go to a hardware store and purchase a sealer called KILZ. It is white, but who cares, it will be covered. Paint the wood all over, let it dry and then lay the new pad and carpet.

Thats the right idea. No amount of cleaning will get it up..Sealing the wood is the only way to go. Can be sanded and sealed with a poly type sealer also. I hope your pets don't have any more accidents or the new carpet will smell the same.

Vinegar is the only way. White wine vigar is sold is large gallon plastic bottles in the spice/cookware section of your supermarket. make sure you get every nook & cranny. Mix 5 parts hot water in bucket with 1 parts Vinegar. you may need to do this a few times. It only smells when it is wet and is completely non-toxic, unlike that cat urine. Give the floors a good smell test, because animals will continue to mark their territory over frequently used spots.- Use a Mop or a sponge and scrub.

Remove the carpet and let it air out. Then pour on some Febreze. Let it sit for a couple of days, at least. You might have to replace some of the wood, but it would be worth the effort and expense.

Just polyurathane over it. It Seals the wood and the smell in completely. I had to do it myself. Had the exact same problem. We removed our carpet and refinished our hardwood floors. No problems since.

We have a dog that does that too. We have to replace those sections of the subfloor before we replace the flooring.
