I agree with you completely! Everyone has different religious beliefs and these are causing major problems in the world. But you can't tell anybody that, because they cling to their religions (which, btw, there is no actual proof of at all. Honestly. Is there any scientific proof that God exists???).

I am an atheist but I see religion not as a solely destructive force. Religion has its (limited) merits and can hold a society together. Religions might be causes of violence and conflict, but without religion many of these conflicts would be still there and other reasons would be presented for them.
Most violent conflicts are in fact about power, greed, domination, chances in life, or even only the basic resources of life. Religions are just drawing the lines of battle. In the absence of religions, other lines would be drawn, like nationality, opinion, or whatever.

@rac: I think your answer is a special example of the real evils of religion. You say that there is one true religion and all others are wrong. That is sheer intolerance and arrogance, and as such it is one of the causes of hatred and violence. People like you need to learn tolerance and respect of other opinions.

Wicked people in the name of religion do much damage. It is not the doctrines of God that hurt the world, but the evil machinations of people perverting the docrines for their own selfish purposes. Religion, true doctrines from God, is the only salvation for the world. So on the one hand, religion will save the world, but on the other hand, religion perverted by evil people, will attempt to destroy the world. The key then is to decide where true religion is compared to the corrupt version of it that you are recognizing as evil.
You are to be congratulated for identifying the false religion or false precepts of religion. It only remains therefore to locate the true religion and become a force for good in this world.

Because it is not religion that is destroying our world but in fact it is people destroying the world claiming some religion as a cover but who are actually working contrary to the desires of God.

It is not the God fearing people destroying the world but the godless people destroying the world.

Can't you see that it is identification with a group or tribe that is destroying the world?

Buddhism...for example...is not destroying the world. But they typically do not have a strong identification as a group.

People you mean you? Maybe you think Religion, is destroying you, but not to the rest of the people like me, who believe in the Almighty God that is the being of the Universe. Don't try to convince other people to accept your point of view.

If you believed that dew was actually leprechan p!ss, every dewy morning would prove to you that leprechans actually exist.

Since many religions believe that the destruction of the world is part of their prophecies, this destruction is 'proof' of their religions. So they do what they can to help it along.

Believeing they are right and everyone else is wrong makes it easy to condem others. When they are not right in God's eyes then it is easier to kill them.
The bad thing is they are all wrong. Soon all of religion will be destroyed.
