LEO,
WHAT SALT DOES IS ACTUALLY INTERFERE WITH TE CELL MEMBRANE IN BACTERIA.
SO WHAT?
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
IF BACTERIA DO NOT HAVE A STABLE CELL MEMBRANE THEY CANNOT LIVE AND MULTIPLY.
REMEMBER HEARING OF BRITISH SAILORS HAVING SALTED MEATS FOR THEIR SHIPS? SALTED MEAT IS PRESERVED SO IT CAN BE TAKEN WHERE ICE AND REFRIGERATION ARE UNAVAILABLE.
SO THEN, DOES IT KILL BACTERIA?
YES

Not sure if it actually kills bacteria. I think it prevents it from forming.
