If a developer and an environmentalist were looking at a wetland area, how would each percieve it?

The developer would see it for its space for housing/buildings, whereas the environmentalist would see it for its ecosystems, etc.

You're assuming they would see it differently. Nowadays, the most highly paid developers are environmental science specialists, and they don't take the "traditional" boogeyman approach to building opportunities. There's a lot more consideration given to natural features of the land, to avoiding development in zones that should be protected, etc...

The emphasis has shifted to working with nature, not trying to pave it over.
