It depends on what you want to do and see while you're here....... and what parts of the country you want to visit.
October is basically springtime, but there's a huge difference in weather from one part of the country to the next.
**Like all countries in the southern hemisphere (the hemisphere south of the Equator), Australia's seasons follow the sequence:
Summer: December to February
Autumn: March to May
Winter: June to August
Spring: September to November
This means that the Australian Christmas takes place at the height of summer. It also means that the mid-year break for students happens in winter. The end of year break for students is commonly known as the 'summer holidays', or the 'Christmas holidays'.
Even though the four 'official' calendar seasons have the same names as the northern hemisphere seasons, the weather during these seasons is very different to northern hemisphere weather patterns. Australia is generally a very dry place, so summers can get much hotter. The pattern of rainfall is also distinct - some places have abundant rain at one time of the year and almost none at other times.**
Check out this website, for some great info on temperature averages....

I'm originally from California and have been here for over 11 years now.... and I STILL haven't gotten used to the weather !
Oz is NOT a cheap place to visit, but if you take that into account, you should be able to have a good time on your holidays..... Distances are vast, and if time is a factor, you may find yourself flying from Capitol areas - or driving for days and days of basic nothing-ness.
Toxiccustard goes into some little known details, and it's a great read, so I recommend reading it if you get the chance.
I hope this helps some ! And feel free to contact me if you need any more info . : )

I'm from Australia.
October is the second month of Spring, so the weather is starting to heat up, yet the nights can remain cool.
It also depends on where you go for how the weather will be.
Some attractions I recommend:
Dreamworld (Qld)
Gold Coast (Qld)
Toronga Zoo (NSW)
Melbourne for shopping (VIC)
Harbour Bridge climb (NSW)
Great Barrier Reef (Qld)
Have a great time!

Hi, I live in Australia. Come from Perth and been living in Sydney the last 20 years. October is a good time of the year to visit.
If you are into V8 car racing and you are a bit of a Rev Head you must try to get to country town called Bathhurst (approx 3 hours west of Sydney) there will be the "2007 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000" car race. The dates are 4 - 7 October 2007.
It's on only once a year and if you can't be there most Australians will be in front of there TV watching the main 12 hour race on the Sunday.
If you can take the time to get there you will be talking about it for years to come.
