It depends on what knd of guy he is. My brother is a sports freak. His favorite birthday gift was an official NFL beer stein. If he's the kind of guy who likes "guy" movies, you could get him something brainless but entertaining like Animal House, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sin City or Alien VS Predator. Or if you'd like to get him a book that a guy would actually find funny and entertaining, you could get him Troutman Penthouse 1975.
Do not get him a tie, razor or after shave. Do not get him clothes unless it's a jersey from his favorite athlete.
Another fun gift my woman gave me was a "certificate" she made on her computer and printed out for a "special morning treat." Use your imagination.

Have you noticed that he collects anything? Just try to notice a theme in the things that he has. You could even ask him about some of the things that he has displayed in his house or apartment to see what he likes about those things so that you can pick out something that he will like.

I buy my husband a spa package, sounds silly, but they really love them, even though they won't admit it. Everybody loves a good back massage, mani, pedi, and a facial. Look around, spas have different men's packages.
