Both the Army and the Marine Corps have this rank.

In the Army, a Private First Class is an E-3. Army ranks go Private E-1, Private E-2, Private First Class (E-3). Private E-1 has no insignia, Private E-2 has one chevron. PFC one chevron and a rocker.

In the Marine Corps, a Private First Class is an E-2. The Marine ranks go Private E-1, Private First Class (E-2), Lance Corporal (E-3). The insignia for Private First Class in the Marine Corps is one chevron.

Both the Army and the Marine Corps (PLEASE do not call it the "marines") have the rank of private first class.

In the Army a private first class is an E-3, or the third rank from the bottom among enlisted men, while in the Marine Corps a PFC is an E-2, second from the bottom.
