My son won't take medicine, and he has a slight fever. He won't take the meltaway tablet, or the syrup tylenol. can I mix it with his juice since that's all he wants right now?

No, because if he doesn't finish the juice, he won't get the whole dose, and underdosing is pretty much pointless.

If he's not miserable, there's no need to supress the fever just for the sake of supressing the fever. Fever is our friend and is the body's first defense against something wrong. Unless he's in pain or just uncomfortable, it's fine not to give him anything. Just be adamant about him drinking plenty - jello and ice pops count!

Ms. Danielle, do what works for you, if that's how to get him to take the tablet, then do it.

Tip: I still use the "suspension" syrup because that way even if they don't finish the juice milk or whatever, the suspension get drunk first and it's not all mixed up in all the liquid.

When your baby is sick, do what is easiest for you and baby.

Usually you can put medicine in his juice, but the problem is that he will have to drink all of it to feel the benefits. Also, many children can taste the difference when you put medicines in their drinks. It is a very difficult age - if you hold them and squirt in the medicine using a syringe, they often swallow automatically. Hope he gets better soon.

I have a 2-1/2 yr old, and that is only way I can get him to take his medicine...I get it in a liquid form and mix it with his juice.

I have done this successfully and not-so-successfully. You have to make sure that the flavor of the juice will complement the flavor of the meds so the kid will drink all of it. Try a bit yourself first to see if it's passable. Good luck with that.

Only if you can ensure that he will drink all of the juice in a short period of time, otherwise you won't be delivering the full dose of the medication.

Yes, as long as you make sure he doesnt spit any out and that he drinks it all. Make sure that the flavors go ok together like cherry and grape. Not orange and apple! Yuck! Unflavored and no dye medicines work best!

Just put enough juice so that he can sip it from his cup.. don't dilute it too much

once he's got it down.. give it about 20 mins.. then give him his juice
