She's an outside dog, so I can't use the hallway trick. Everytime I throw the ball, she just looks at me as if I'm crazy and doesn't move. (She's also a puppy.)

To the secound girl, I don't ANY animals inside and my puppy is perfectly happy outside. Nor will I ever, because my dad doesn't want the dogs nails to scratch up the wood floor.

get her to associate fun with the ball, playing with it with her mouth and your hand.

Use treats to reward good positive behavior, and praise. For example if she chases the ball reward that behavior. Eventually you will have her getting the ball and returning it to you in no time.

This has always worked for me. I take cheerrios and get somewhat close to the pup and give her one. Then I just start to throw them one by one near her mouth. When she catches one make a big fuss about her catching it. Now you will have to do this for quite some time before she will catch everyone. Then gradually move up to a small ball and when she catchs it give her a treat. She will catch on really well once you've moved up to the right sized ball for her.

Tie a rope to the stick and pull her back. But not hard. Or perhaps tie a bone onto a fishing pole and cast it out into the yard then reel it in. She'll dig it. She'll enjoy the autonomous-like movements of the bone as it heads in your direction as if by majic or she'll just look at you with pity and disgust.

some dogs have a desire to retrieve and some don't,,,,,, please stop worrying about having your dog fetch,, and concentrate on training your dog to be an INSIDE dog,,, dogs are pack animals and do not do well when banished to the outside while the rest of the pack is inside.. how cruel

every dog has a toy of choice mine hates balls but loves cheap blue squeeky bears from wally-world. i taught her by holding it close to my chest and telling her it was my baby and then squeaking it and all of a sudden throwing it. she'll bring it back everytime. you have to make them want it so bad that they'll do anything to get it. and tug with them when they bring it back. gl
