I think my dog might be pregnant. I've had her only about a year an a half, my step-father resuced her from an abusive family. She is half American Rottweiler and half Corgi (basically she is a vertically challenged Rott). She went into heat at the beginning of January and a particularly huge German Sheppard BROKE through our wooden fence to get in to her. Now I don't know if her virtue was stolen (I'd like to think I interrupted things LONG before they started to happen) but if the two dogs did do the nasty, besides taking her to the vet, what would some early warning signs be? How long is a gestation period and what are things I should worry about when it comes to her size versus the puppy size? Also, should I consider doggie abortion? I know that puppy adoption is so difficult, especially when they are going to be mutts like these...

Okay... no... I know for a fact that she is half Cardigan Welsh Corgi and half Rott, not a Rott with Dwarfism.
Furthermore, if I could have POSSIBLY had the dog spayed within the time period I've had her, I would have...
Please, oh please don't insult the question asker... that's a sure-fire way NOT to get the 10 bonus points....

The gestation period is normally 9 weeks or 63 days from the first day that they are bred. Your vet might not spay a ***** this far along as she would be due in the first few weeks of March. There are some vets that will spay in late gestation. You should of had this girl spayed a long time ago. She might do fine whelping a litter, but I would get all of the vet's phone numbers handy for when the time comes. Ask your vet about the whelping issue with her. Are you sure that she is a Corgi x Rot mix? Does she have chondrodysplasia instead? If she is a chondrodyslpastic Rot, she will have shorter legs.

The Gestation period for a dog is 60 days. approximately two months. There aren't really any early warning signs to tell if a dog is pregnant. I am not really sure, but I believe that the mother determines the size of the pups. If you are not sure that you want the responsibility of these puppies, the best thing to do is get your dog spayed as soon as possible. You don't want something like this to happen again.

It may be too late to stop the pregnancy if she is pregnant.
A trip to the vets is in order to find out for sure if she is pregnant.
Gestation period is between 63 and 69 days. Their aren't early warning symptoms, really. Further along there may be increased appetite, fullness in her breasts. Some dogs dont show unitl they are almost ready to whelp. Depends on how many pups they are carring.
Good luck!

Gestation is 63 days so your dog is way past the time for an abortion. If you dog was impregnated in early January, then she is almost full term. You should be able to see her teats beginning to swell for an indication that she is pregnant and she should be getting bigger around. Try giving away the puppies for free when they are old enough (about 8 weeks) and you might be able to get rid of them. Also if there is a no kill shelter, they might be able to adopt them out. Get your dog spayed as soon as possible after the puppies are born.

You should be VERY concerned. With her small size, and the german shepherd's large size, your dog is very much at risk if she carries these possible pups to term. At best, she wouldn't be able to deliver the to large puppies on her own and need an emergency c-section. At worst, it could very well kill her.
My best advice is to have her spayed asap. This will terminate the pregnancy and prevent all future ones.
Please get her in to the vet to have her spayed. I know others will argue that OMG your killing unborn puppies. Yes, and you are very likely saving your dog's life, and lives of shelters dogs as well.
If you have problems finding a low cost spay clinic check out this website http://www.spayusa.org They are very helpful in helping you find a vet who will do a low cost spay. They have hundreds of participating vets all over the USA. Very friendly people to work with.

63 days from the date of conception. if you decide against the puppy abortion, just keep an eye on her for signs of labor, temperature drop, nesting(digging a hole to have pups in), heavy breathing, pushing. if she starts these things and doesn't have a pup with in 4-5 hours she may have to be sectioned. the vet can give her a shot of oxytcin to help with labor. also if she has to be sectioned she can also be spayed at the same time.good luck

63 days in my case to the day of first breeding. rule of thumb is hope for four or more. the more that are crammed in there the smaller they'll be when the are born(hence an easier delivery. at about 40 days youll be able to feel them in her tummy.usually close to the groin and the sides of her belly.i felt three prayed for four and got three.most vets charge EXTRA for abortion as for fixing her, now that shes had first heat\pregnancy she'll probly get lazy and fat. mine did, but if you fix them before they get pregnant they'll stay puppies forever. like my other puppy. gl if you abort or fix have alot of toys to keep her mind off babies.
