Well Hong Kong does not use the Yuan..it uses hong kong dollars....but everything here is very cheap. Lunch will run about 20 rmb(yuan) if you eat fancy food....most of the time it is cheaper. Candy, depnds on the type is about 3 yuan for chocolate bars, soap is 4 to 5 yuan depends on the brand...and coffee if maybe 20 to 30 yuan for a bag..I am not sure about Hong kong....It think the costs are higher there, much more western type culture.

You have to know that life in Hong-Kong and main land China ( Guanzhou being concerned ) is totally different. The standarts of living are much more higher in HK.

Depending on how you live lunch + dinner can be 10 yuans if you eat a single dish without drinks, soap maybe 1 yuan, coffee in Starbucks 30 yuans, candy depends but very cheap. These prices are for main land China

That depends on your choice. In cities like Guangzhou or Shanghai, a lunch can cost you 3 yuan only or above 100 yuan. If you make coffee yourself it'll be about 1 yuan a cup. But if you go to a cafe like starbucks, it can cost you 50 yuan a cup or more. Things like soap and candy are usually cheap.

I've never been to Hong Kong. So I don't know the price there. But I'm sure things there will cost you more money than the mainland. You can ask for details on http://ask.jongo.com/

As a general rule, food is cheap in mainland China. Lunch at a stand will be maybe RMB 10 for noodles, a McDonald's meal between RMB 15 - 25, etc. An example, fried rice at the fast food area of the Carrefour here in Shanghai is RMB 13 with a Pepsi at RMB 4.5. Hotel restaurants, of course, are more. I would estimate RMB 30 for a good lunch, 75 for dinner. Soap is about RMB 1 - 2 per bar. Western candy can be expensive at RMB 10.5 for 160 grams of jelly beans, but local candies are cheap (be aware most Chinese candy is less sweet than in the US or Western Europe). Coffee will be between RMB 10 - 30, depending on location and flavor. Hong Kong will be higher (they use the Hong Kong Dollar, not the RMB - but both are close in value).

In the PRC:

Lunch:
Three dishes and a beer in small restaurant:is about 14 RMB (in the local vernacualar rmb is Kuai).

Soap:
A bar of Safeguard is about 3.5 RMB

Candy:
Varies in Price depending on candy. Snickers bar or M&Ms are about 4 RMB.

Coffee:
Box of 11 Nescafe pre-mixed powder coffee pouches is 10 RMB. A cup in a teahouse or restaraunt will set you back about 20 to 30 RMB. Starbucks and other stupid chains from the west will rip you off to the tune of 40 to 100 RMB for some pretenscious phony coffee ****.

In Hong Kong:

Stupid tourists and rich kid HK trendoids who don't have a clue allow for all prices there to be over-inflated compared to the mainland..

It depends on where you go, the nearer to major cities the higher the cost, the nearer you are to tourist traps/palaces the near the cost of living is. In the country side I paid 20 rmb for a nice 6 dish meal for me and my girlfriend at the time. The price of a big mac meal anywhere in china (medium size) is about 18.50 rmb (due to it being a forgien company) an average a meal from a resurant is about 20-30 rmb higher if its a more posh one. Some a school canteen a meal is about 3-6 rmb. Soap (chinese) is about 3-6 rmb. Milk about 8 rmb for 500 mls. Bread about 3-8 rmb. Candy is dearest a normal sized snickers bar about 4 rmb. Imported candy is dearer still!!

Ive just returned from HK and Guangzhou. The way of living in HK is so much different from Guangzhou, it amazed me. I got a takeaway of roast duck with rice and veg for $15 which is equivalent to £1 in English money. The same meal cost me 10 yuan in Guangzhou which is equivalent to 70p. Its dirt cheap to eat and buy things over there, even the Mc Donalds and KFC are miles cheaper and nicer!! Have a nice trip.

yuan is refered to as RMB almost everywhere. I have eaten lunch for 5 RMB in small resturants . I found a nice resturant in Nanning and paid 49 RMB for a good steak dinner. Most groceries are very reasonable. I just came back from Nanning and everything is very reasonable..

if a soda expenses a million$ in US, its because of the different value determining components like call for, furnish, fee, disposable income of persons etc. those components are actually not comparable for all the international locations, it differs u . s . sensible. i've got faith you will no longer be able to earn a similar income china because of the fact the exertions is way less costly, and you could convert the distant places funds at your decision there is often replace regulations.
