Fleas are everywhere. In the grass, on other animals, hiding in carpets, etc... There are several things you can do. You can use a perscription flea preventative and your vet can recommend the best one for your dog. Some dogs react badly to these or the owners just prefer a more natural solution. For these circumstances, adding Apple Cider Vinegar to your dogs' water can help. You want about 1/3 cup per gallon. You MUST introduce this slowly or your pets may stop drinking their water. Start with a teaspoon per gallon and work up to the full amount when your dogs are ready. It's also good for mosquitoes. You can also use Diatomaceous Earth (DE) which is fossilized plankton. You want the food grade, NOT the pool grade. You dust this into the dogs' coats daily if you see fleas. You can also dust your carpets, furniture, and pet bedding with it. You can dust the yard as well (this will not hurt the wildlife except for insects). For flea control, dust the dog once a week if you have alot of fleas and every 2-4 weeks if fleas aren't a big problem for you. It scratches the exoskeleton and the flea dies of dehydration. It will not hurt your dog and can actually be used as a wormer if your dog cannot use traditional wormers. For worming, 1-2 tablespoons daily for two weeks or until the worms are gone, whichever is longer.

I have provided a link for the DE as well as one for natural remedies for various problems including pests.

I forgot to mention, if you live in the country and don't mind caring for some extra critters, guinea fowl happen to LOVE eating fleas and ticks. This is what my parents use due to the large number of fleas and ticks in the area. They went from having fleas and ticks on the animals all the time to having none at all without any flea treatment. Unfortunately, I live in a city and can't have any so I use the natural methods I mentioned.

The best and easiest way to keep fleas off your dog is feed your dog Nutro Ultra. This dog food is a holistic dog food and works wonders for everything. It has a natural garlic in it and this is a natural repellent to fleas. I have 4 dogs and I feed them all Nutro ultra and of course like all dogs should be they are house dogs, I have no flea problems what so ever. In the hottest and most common months for Fleas I usually use Frontline plus. Normally I only put it on once or twice through the summer sometimes only once. My dogs never get fleas. Try it and you will see a huge difference in the fleas, and the dogs coat and many other things too. It truely is a great dog food. A little pricey compared to most but it is worth it.

Fleas come from the outside, so you should keep your pet inside most of the time.

Frontline and Advantax are the BEST. When I got my kittens I put it on them once and never saw another flea. It kills the fleas on them and the eggs. Also, if there are still fleas on your carpet or furniture, when they jump on your pet for a bite to eat it kills them. It is a wonderful product. I only had to use it once on my cats because they are indoor pets. If your dogs go outside, which I'm assuming they do, you should use it once a month. It's 40 or 50 dollars for a box of 3 but is the only thing that will really work for fleas. Don't get any other brand.

Get Advantage.. you have to go to the vet office to get it and there are some animal shelters that sell it for WAY less... dont get the flea prevention from walmart or anything cuz it doesnt work like Advantage... Fleas come from other animals and bushes, If your dogs go for walks and enter a yard that has fleas then your pup will bring them home... they can also live in your carpet!! Advantage kills the fleas within an hour and stops the fleas from biting in 15 min!!! It is AWESOME and it also repels ticks!! and do NOT give them garlic!!!

They come from the outside. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat and NO FLEAS. I use Rx For Fleas Plus ( Fleabusters.). It goes on your carpet, their bedding etc. I only have to use it twice a year. BUT you must also make sure you put it UNDER all your furniture where the fleas like to hide in the dark and lay eggs. I have been using this product for about 5 yrs. now and nothing else and as I said before I have no problem with fleas.

advantage works best on just fleas!!! if they seem like they are getting immuned to it you can switch to frontline. which also repels ticks ( which can cause problems also if too many of them bit your dog) but whatever you do don't use harts drops from walmart.i work at a vets office and we have had several animals come in that the owners put harts drops on them and they went into convulsions and had seizures to the point that we had to give the morphine and it ended up costing these pet owners a lot of money. advantage is around $50 for a 6 months supply and frontline ranges from$30 to $48 depending on the size of your animal

They get fleas from being outside where other animals with fleas have been. There are several useful products such as Frontline that will eliminate the problem.

keep them treated with a prescription flea repellent such as advantage frontline etc.

if you are not into chemicals, having a house without rugs will prevent 90% of flea infestations, and bathing her frequently in a citrus based shampoo will probably help the other 10%

Frontline Plus seems to be the best. It's usually about $35-40 for 3 months and you can buy it at the pet store or through the vet.
