NO! The only thing you should be feeding your puppy is puppy food. They are just developing their digestive systems and a 5 month old puppy would not be able to handle a cooked ham-hock. And if I'm not mistaken, you should not give your dog ham, period! It's not good for them. People food should be left to people. Stick to puppy food...you'll have a healthier dog in the long run.

Hi! bones of this type are very brittle and splinters will happen. Puppy's don't know that thinks are sharp and tend to just gulp things down. Bone splints are one of the main causes of emergency vet visits. Bone splinters will lodge in the throats of any dog, also if it makes it down into the stomach it can puncher the stomach lining causing serious damage and infection which can kill a pup.
Better things are out there on the market for them to chew on.
Try Planet Dog. com they rate their toys on a chew-o-meter and are a wonderful small company. Very pet and enviorment friendly!
I love all their toys and have quite a few for all my dogs.

Giving ham to a dog is bad. If you give ham to a dog it has to be in small servings. Not a whole hamhock. That dog could possibly get sick from having alot of ham.

Don't give your dog any kind of bone..that sounds weird cause "bones" are assoc. with a dog..but they can SPLINTER and cause severe hurt. But then again actually if I really wanted to give my dog a bone of anykind it would be a hamhock bone..they are bigger and denser than say pork chop bones, steak bones...NEVER GIVE ONE CHICKEN BONES...they are the worst for splintering. Ask you vet about what type of "chew" toy etc. is best...he's the EXPERT here...

No.
Do not give any bones to your dog period unless you want to run the risk of perforated stomach, intestines etc. Bones splinter when chewed on and splinters can cause lesions in the inner organs. Give him a rubber bone to chew on better yet get a "busy bone" they clean teeth while the dog chews.

i'm not sure what a hamhock is, but if it contains any bones, then no it's not ok. cooked bones can splinter and are dangerous for dogs! if it doesn't have bones, then it should be fine!

Depends on the breed.
No cooked bones, because they splinter. Natural raw is best. My shepherd gets turkey necks, beef hooves, and marrow bones, raw.
It is a bunch of hooey, that a dog can't have a meat bone. (no chicken bones..too small)

I would not because they might choke on it. Break of a little peice and feed it to the pup one peice at a time, this is a good way to do it because your dog will not choke plus she will think she is getting more than if you just give her the whole thing.Oh and never give any dog anything with small bones or bones that chipp easily to your dog regaurdless of age as it could choke on it.
