Locks of Love uses much of the hair that is donated to it for other things besides making wigs for sick children... things like testing hair products such as hair coloring products, etc. Is this true? Is there anything else I should know about Locks of Love that is questionable? Is there other hair donation organizations... if so, what are they?

Locks of Love sells the wigs they make. It is not free. The price of the wig is dependant on how much the family makes.
If your hair is "too short", gray or "unsuitable for children"(whatever that means) then they will sell it for hair testing. There is a program called "Wigs for Kids" and also one called "Beautiful legnths" for kids that need hair.

If your hair is color-treated or anything like that they will not take it.

another bad thing about locks of love is they don't give wigs to kids that are getting chemotherapy becuase it's temporary

I have only heard good things about Locks of Love. If you want to learn more, visit their website for the criteria of the hair donation, or if you are totally turned off to them, take a look at Wigs For Kids. They are like Locks of Love but not as well known. It's a great thing you want to do, don't let people discourage you! Good luck!

My daughter donated her hair to Locks of Love. There is a lenght requirement (I think it is 10 or 11 inches) and it has to be completely processed free. Ive never heard of the hair being used for anything but hair pieces.

Ummm....no. Locks of Love does not test hair colour! Haha. Why would they do that? They do not make hair colour and they are not conected to any company that does. Donate your hair to them. They will make a lovely wig for someone with cancer. Just make sure you follow the guidelines. I think it has to be at least 13inches long and has NEVER had hair colour on it.

I've never heard this about Locks of Love and checked their website. According to their website, they are strictly a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hairpieces for sick children.

I don't know about that. My best friends dad works there part-time and she likes to eavesdrop so if they do that, she would of told me by now. Trust me.
