i am talking to a breeder now who expects a litter of english bulldogs by May, and would be giving them away at 2 months old so that would be by July, by then my frenchie will be 8 months old. Does anyone have experience on how frenchies get along with puppies? does gender matter?

I don't know about the Frenchie, but English Bulldogs get along with EVERYONE :)

Mine licks and cuddles my cats and everyone in the house. If anyone ever tried to break in, he would wag his tail and show them where all the good stuff is :)

It doesn't matter that your dog is a french bulldog, gender on the other hand does. Usually putting two dogs of the same sex can be bad, you should constantly observe the behavior if you get another female. Males get along with females and vise versa. Make sure that when introducing your new pup to give them both the same amount of attention as the other and take things slow. Always reasure the other that everything is ok, in the end you will have two wonderful happy dogs to live with.

There shouldn't be any problem. It may take a few days for your dog to warm up to a new addition but they will probably end up best buddies. Male-female is the best possible gender combination.
