I'm getting married abroad - Jamaica next year...

Go for it! Congratulations on the engagement. Where to start: Get loads of brochures and go through them all. Most high street travel agents have a wedding coordinators who can help you loads... I have found Thomas Cook or Virgin staff to be very helpful..
What are you looking for in the brouchure and travel agents:
Hotels that cater you budget - What is your budget? Are you going to go for a basic free package, and get loads of extras, are you going for the top range wedding package, is it just the two of you and having a basic free package would do?

Hotels that cater you requirements - are you inviting children, elderly family members, is the hotel catered for there needs? Are you having your hotel seperate to your guest, or are you staying with them the whole duration?

Advice - how helpful was the travel agent with showing you information on the hotels that would be best for you? Do they have an in-house wedding consultant? Get in contact with the hotels wedding co-ordinator and ask questions, assess how well the questions were answered, how prompt they were, whether they can cater for your requirements.

It works out sooo much cheaper than getting married here, without losing the romantic aspect of it! Many hotels do a free wedding package then you can add your extras to that - like upgrade of cake, wedding reception...

Two things to consider:
1.The requirements the destinations have to weddings. We went from Maldives to Seychelles, Cuba to Dominica Republic and ended up with Jamaica because there is no translation fee required, no solicitor fee's to prove we are single, only have to wait 3days from once we arrive....

2. Family & Friends. If you are having children at the wedding you will need to be staying at a hotel which caters for them.... Adult hotels don't children attend the hotel, not even for day. Also are you going to have your family and friends stay within the same hotel as you, or are you staying at a different hotel?...other than that, I'd say..

Tips: Make sure that the airline that you are travelling with accepts you taking the dress on board or as hand-luggage...

Consultant with the wedding planners as much as possible, answering ALL your 101 questions (you will bound to have them!)

If you're looking to do it on the beach somewhere, then your best bet is to find a resort that does wedding packages and price out rates. A lot of hotels that do weddings have good info on the website and a wedding coordinator that you deal with directly. There are different packages, but the hotel will take care of the officiant, flowers, reception etc. All you have to do is pick the package. I hope this helps! Oh, and www.tripadvisor.com is a great website to go read patron reviews. Just type in the hotel you're thinking of and you can read a lot of honest reviews from people who stayed there. Good luck!

Try Sandals. If you book a stay for like 5 or 7 nights (not sure which one) or longer the wedding is free. They give you a cake and a ceremony and flowers. It's not expensive at all either. Good Luck!

For a laid back place to stay, check out http://silver-sands.com/
You can rent a house (with a cook/housekeeper) for very reasonable rates. Some of the best cooking I EVER had was during our stay down there. Wake up late and the housekeeper is already working on breakfast. Don't forget to get some akee with oninons, peppers, and bacon for breakfast.

Also, for a island, easygoing experience, check out http://windjammer.com/ and pick your cruise.
I think you can even get married while at sea!
Forget the big ship BS and go barefoot for a week.

just google 'jamaica weddings' and see what comes up. also, if you find a resort there that you like, they usually have a wedding section on their website.

First I would check their weather- what it's like and when. Then, based on that, check out web sites for that time of year. Good luck!
