My ophthalmic veterinarian who I used for years would postpone surgery until the dog finishes cutting his second teeth because the stress of surgery will make the other eye's gland invert also and then you will need a second surgery. If both eyes develop cherry eye than you can have them done together. Also pocket surgery where the gland is not removed but tucked back and stitched is much better. Try to find an ophthalmic vet as they are very used to these procedures. I have seen botch jobs done by vets who don't often do cherry eye ops. Bellow is a link to CERF and from there you should be able to find a specialist in your area. You can sell the puppy with cherry eye at a reduced price writing on your contract that you reduced the dog because of the needed surgery. Or you can hold on to the puppy and have the surgery done when the second teeth are in. These are the risks and additional things that come with breeding a litter. It is hard to find a home for a puppy with cherry eye and it is hard to find a home for a puppy that already has second teeth. Either way on this puppy you will resign to loosing money. But as we say, people don't breed for money these types of costs eat up any profit when good breeders handle them correctly.

Cherry eye is the lay term for a prolapsed nictitating membrane (gland of the 3rd eye lid). Topical meds usually don't work
Surgery is usually required to correct the problem. There are 2 types of surgery: Repair or removal of the gland. If your vet suggests removal RUN the other way. Removal of the gland also includes removal of the tear duct and your dog will have to have artificial tear drops put in his eyes every 2-3 hours for life.

Cherry eye needs surgical correction. It's not a huge operation but is definitely needed. Cherry eye can be quite painful for the pup. Please have the surgery done soon.

It's a quite common condition, particularly in hounds. It's minor surgery and takes a couple of stitches afterward. Nothing to worry about, the eye drops are to prevent her eye getting irritated. Depending on how serious it is, talk to your vet about how soon she would need to have it done.

Its purely cosmetic and it's the third eyelid which becomes enlarged. Do not worry. It can go away on its own. My brothers dog has it. Just let the vet ease your mind when you talk to them. good luck x

My new dog had cherry eye on Friday. We took him to the vet, who told us it's cosmetic and does not hurt the dog. Today (Monday) his cherry eye has gone away, on its own.
