If you want one on Randolph st. you're sol. There's Trattoria #10 on Dearborn just north of Madison. It's not overly expensive just because very few Italian restaurants by nature are expensive by restaurant standards. It's only about 2-3 blocks from the Ford Center. If you want really nice the only 4 Star italian restuarant in Chicago is Spiaggia. The chef is amazing and it's expensive but worth it. It's generally considered amongst the best restaurants in the city period. The catch is it's in the 980 N. Michigan Ave. building which would be a cab ride but by no means a bad one. If you want fancy and expensive it's where you want to be. If you don't like any of those check metromix.com.

The best italian restaurant in Chicago is Rosebud on Taylor Street. It's not quite the Theatre District but it's not that far either.

If you absolutely have to be close to the Theatre then I guess you are looking at either Trattoria #10 or Italian Village. Italian Village sucks and I have never been to Trattoria #10.

If you want quick and cheap but also very good Italian food try Pasta Pallazzo on Halsted in Lincoln Park near DePaul.

Vivo on Randolph is pretty good, as is Trattoria #10.

The two best high end Italians in the downtown area are:
Spiaggia and Coco Pazzo. I like Coco Pazzo much better.

Some other possibilities in the area are:
The Italian Village - this has three restaurants; Casual, Mid-range, and High end. It is a little touristy, but they specialize in pre-theater.

Also, on Taylor Street there are a few:
Francesca's is probably the best, but Rosebud is also good.

I would check them out on Metromix and pick what you like.

likely one in Italy, yet i'd ought to point that you inspect locally owned places. you'll likely get solutions like the Olive backyard, or chains like that, yet they're all an similar, they make recipes to save the costs down, and each thing is sanitized and not at all actual. pass to an section on your city it really is owned by an Italian kin or someone that likes to cook dinner Italian, there is guaranteed to be one on the point of you! I continually have the acceptable ethnic foodstuff from community eating places as a replace of a chain.
