For long term storage: Chop and mix with a small amount of water. Put in ice cube trays and freeze. Take cubes and put in freezer ziplocks and use as needed.

Always cut basil by taking off the tops of the stems, about a third of the way down, to an intersection of new leaves. This will indicate to the plant to start growing the tiny new leaves into branches of more leaves. If you just pull of the leaf you want, you will get no new growth at all and your plant will start to stunt and begin making flowers. Once your plant starts this process of making flowers, if they are not trimmed off your plant will make seeds from the flowers and die soon after. So even if you are not making pesto, prune your plants regularly, store the leaves chopped up in a little olive oil in the refrigerator, and your plant will be healthier and happier.

Preferably in an air-tight container made of high-quality plastic(Tupperware), or a glass jar with a lockable rubber seal lid( the kind that use those wire pressure locks). For the best tasting basil, use a mortar and pestle to crush the leaves prior to use.

For immediate use, I put them upright in a glass with some water with a little sugar in it (the way you would cut flowers) and keep them in the fridge. For long term, I put the leaves in the food processor with a little olive oil and make a paste out of it, put it into ice cube trays, freeze it and then use it as needed.

Keep a portion of the stems on and stand them up in a glass with some water and store in the fridge. If you do not use them right away, change the water a lot.

If you want to use them in a cooked dish, like spaghetti, you can rip them up into small pieces and put them into ice-cube trays, pour some water over them and put them in the freezer to freeze. You can pull them out and put them straight into the pot, it works for most leafy herbs, you can put rosemary into the freezer in a freezer bag as is, and it will come out looking fresh.
If you want to store it fresh keep it in a jar of water in your kitchen.

Wash, dry, wrap in a paper towel & store in a zipper bag that you have squeezed the air out of.

Keep them in a ziplock in the veg. crisper section of ur fridge. That should get you a few weeks life outa them!
