Obviously if you have any concerns about your ticker then you must have it checked by a doctor.
I had something very similar in that my heart beat very fast and strong in a most peculiar way. It could happen at any time, for example during rest, in bed, during extreme times in sporting activity- it was very unpredictable. I went to the doctor and had all sorts of checks and was told that there was nothing wrong with my heart. This was nice to know. I was told the unusual activity was known as arythmia and the cause was unknown. Many people have this and it does not cause any ill effects. It just spooks people a little until they know there is nothing wrong. This was some time ago and my heart still does it occasionally and I am still ok.
So, if you have been checked and nothing is wrong, then enjoy your eccentric heart. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I think your bath water is too hot and your meditation technique is flawed. Why are you trying to slow you breathing. When you start to meditate allow yourself to settle first letting your breathing naturally slow as you become relaxed. Scan through your body looking for tension inyour muscles and just let it go. Once you have reached a more relaxed state then start to count your out breath. Your long slow deep breathes at present may be causing you to hyperventilate which would increase your heart rate. Just breathe normally during meditation.

I have had similar, and like a previous respondent all the tests I had came back clear.
I think a hot bath may speed up your heart rate a bit, and then you become aware of it and start to get stressed, which in turn makes your pulse even faster.
For peace of mind, go to your GP - you may have a blood test to rule out things like hormone imbalances, thyroid problems, etc, and maybe have an ECG (which takes about 5 mins) and checks your heart rhythm and electrical signals.
At the end of the day, it's worth it, even if it shows you just need to learn to relax - like I do!
Since I had these tests, my heart rate has been a lot better, which shows half the problem was me, worrying about my heart rate!

Possibly your heart is beating fast all the time but you only notice when you relax, do you check your pulse at other times?
Fast heart beat can happen for many reasons.
Do you suffer from Anxiety or Panic attacks? that can cause fast heart beat.

when you calm down you become more aware of your heartbeat.
it might be beating just as fast all the time but you are not paying attention. try checking it when you are not trying to relax.
my experience is i have to relax and tune in a bit just to become aware of my heartbeat. keep going you will get better at slowing
yourself down with meditation. do it 3-5 min a day and see your progress.

I think your heart beats fast all the time and you only notice it when you are relaxing and focusing on it. Have fun in the cardiac ward.

Are you experiencing headaches? Frequent nose bleeds? Could be your blood pressure giving you a hint.

this is due to the water being too hot and raising your blood pressure. sounds daft but true.
