How come no one complained the same way about Star Wars? Or did they?

because Harry Potter books/movies deal with magic and the Bible says to stay away from magic. Thus, magic exists to soem point. The Catholic Church didn't want children to be exposed to magic, even in a fun and cool movie, incase they are tempted by this movie and lead them to magic later one. Temptations lead us to sin.

Star Wars events haven't happened and aren't happening. Thus there is nothing in the Star Wars movies that can tempt us to become a Jedi or go to the Dark side of the force. These movies do show us good and bad and that good will prevail but it isn't real. We know that magic exists to some point, like in witchcraft, mediums, psychics, etc. God tells us to stay away from it.

Christianity specifically states that 'thou shalt not suffer a witch to live'. They don't like that witches are being held as positive figures, even though they're fantasy witches and not the religious kind.

I also browsed a book once that claims the worst thing about Harry Potter is that he never calls on Lord Jesus for help. Instead, he's self-reliant, and will solve the problem by any means necessary, including breaking rules, and does not get punished for it. This goes very strongly against Christian morality, which says look to Jesus to solve your problems and you're supposed to be obediant.

Star Wars, as an obvious work of science fiction, at least drew very clear lines between good and evil. Not all this confusing 'good intention' or 'good result' stuff.

Well,

You would have to look at this from a spritiual standpoint. I never really watched Star-Wars, so I couldn't say too much about it. But, you have to understand that Harry Potter is promoting witchcraft with such things as spells and magic, which the Bible stands against. The spiritual realm is real very real. These things are opening up doors to demonic forces. And the Bible says that those who take part in whitchcraft will not have a place in Heaven. I can go further. But this is the basis. I don't know. Some people are wierd. I am a Christian, but I read Harry Potter.

The way I see it, Harry Potter is just entertainment. It's not healthy to be a complete Potter-freak, or a complete anti-Potter-freak. It's just entertainment. And it's pretty clean, so it's not bad entertainment.

Star Wars had the Dark Side (evil) and the Force (good).

Harry Potter is a wizard...not many similarities there.

They most certainly did. See, some Christians tend to be a bit too opinionated and try to shoot down any media that could be considered a bad influence to fellow believers. Harry Potter's a prime target for this; anything that mentions witchcraft, wizardry or magic is liable to be bait for a (excuse the pun)witch-hunt.

Here is an interesting statistic...

The fastest growing religion (in terms of percentage) is Wicca - a Neopagan religion (sometimes referred to as Witchcraft.) Numbers went from 8,000 in 1990 to 134,000 in 2001.

The first Harry Potter book came out in 1997....And (regardless of even how accurate a portrayal it paints of witchcraft) I have personally heard of many people getting into Wicca as a result of their interest in Harry Potter....it is a dangerous influence. (On the other hand, I have not heard of anyone turning to witchcraft as a result of Star Wars)...

I have heard complaining about the movie Evan Almighty. They say that the movie is blasphemy because god promised to never create another big flood. I wondered why they never complained about Waterworld though.

I have never heard a religious complaint about Star Wars, though.
