Me and my husband are going to build next year in ohio a 2,000 square foot home. How much per square foot does that cost my husband say $100.

Well, are you hiring a builder, or are you building the home yourself?

$100 per square foot is probably the minimum, especially if you hire a professional builder. That will get you amenities like formica counters, vinyl floors, Legacy doors (not wood)--pretty basic, but still nice.

If you are putting your own labor into it, $100 per square foot will start to get you upgrades, like hardwood and tile floors, upgrade tops in the kitchen and bath, nicer cabinets, wood doors and trim, etc.

If you are hiring a builder and expect upgrades, expect up to $150 per square foot.

You should also keep in mind that many people go over budget when building a new home. Some builders recommend building 10-20% extra into your budget to allow for this. The alternative is to start out realistic, and just budget for what you want in the first place.

Cost is a variable and the only way to control the cost is to shop for all the stuff you need. I like 24k gold block tiles in the bath and to make the shower ......You like hand made sun baked blocks and you have a cheap way to seal and finish the bath you did all the research and got the look you want. The thing is to find out the products and look you are going to end up with. $100 could get you all you want and need....You need to go shopping and it takes time away from the department store but then you get a look at the products and develop a budget... I suggest if you want to do something special do it in the bathrooms and kitchen.

It depends on the finishes. Typically for a middle class finish it will average around 100- 125 dollars per square foot to build. Are you building it yourself? if not who ever builds it will probably want to sell it at around 160-180 per square foot.
