Offer to bring dinner over one night for the family. Offer driving errands that need to get done in absence of their car.
We gave a gag gift to my hubbies sister who kept getting in car accidents. We took an old tool box and filled it with old beat up tools you might need in a car. Each had its own description for use, along with oversized bandaids for car booboos. Cute and funny in the right situation.

When I had to have surgery, my step-dad brought me leggos and a little fake spider so I could freak out the nurses when they woke me up at 3 am. It ended up being a good laugh and distraction for all of us!

depends on how serious it was. Was it just a fender bender with no injuries? was the car totaled and they ended up in a cast, needed surgery, etc?

If it was there fault... maybe make up a "free pass" to make light of the situation. (hopefully it wasnt too serious)
