My kids are 4 and 5 as well, and they always liked sleeping in the livingroom because theres a tv in there, but then my 5 year old started school and i didnt want her to stay up all night watching it and then being to tired for school, so i had them go to sleep in their own room that night, they did cry, thats for sure, but after praising them and telling them how proud of them i was for being such big girls..everynight, they got used to it more and more! and now its normal for them, lol..even though i did put a tv in their on christmas, but before that they did just fine! even if you have too stay in there for a little bit with them, alot of things help! goodluck! :)

This is going to be a slow and gradual process. You might want to start by getting them beds/and or bedding that is special for them. Explain to them that they are now big kids and that big kids sleep in their own beds. Print out a chart similar to this (http://www.chartjungle.com/toddler/stayinbedchart.html) and buy some "cool" stickers for each child. Show them the chart and the stickers and tell them how they can earn the stickers and the "reward" for earning a certain number or stickers. (There should be several reward levels!)
Set up a new, but similar, bedtime routine.
Tell them that they can sleep in your room for a certain amount of time, but they must sleep on a pallet on the floor. After a certain amount of time, move them to their own room(s). You might want to reward them (with extra stickers) for not putting up a huge fight at bedtime. You might have to sit in their room with them the first few nights. You might want to purchase a night light or two for them as well.
You can get some other great advice from http://www.supernanny.us.com , just search for bedtime. There is a lot of helpful information there!
