I do- we have a fairly large local chapter in the Buffalo NY area... I'm always SHOCKED at the stuff people are willing to give away! I mean, I've seen whole refridgerators go SEVERAL times on there in only the few months I've been signed up!

Yes I do and some of the things I've been gifted have been in excellent condition...I've gotten a Treadmill with calorie burned counter, miles walked, heart monitor etc. Very decent. I've also received a setee in excellent condition, a table which I then gifted to a non-profit org, I've rescued plants and cedar trees and tons more things.

I've also given numerous things away via Freecycle. It's an extremely exceptional way to allow more life from those things we no longer want or need but which are not yet ready to be tossed.

I agree that more people should freecycle...as the org grows and more groups form...maybe more people will catch on to this great way of finding those things you want or that you want someone else to have

Our group has grown to well over 8,000 members and has broken off into smaller segments but keeps growing...we all try to keep our mileage down when it comes to freecycling...we indicate in our posts the area in which we are located and from there people who are closest to the area are usually the ones who respond...sometimes people will travel but usually if there is a distance involved we have connector parties...people who are willing to be a drop off and pick up point between two freecyclers. Thus far it has worked very well for the majority.

I used to use Austin Freecycle all the time, but I got sick of the snotty moderators who would put your account on hold for asking questions or any number of stupid little things. It just wasn't worth the hassle anymore. So now, I use Freeaustin or Craigslist to give away my things, instead. Freecycle is a great premise, but like anything else, can be ruined by the people in charge, once their heads get a little too big.

YEAH!! Save the landfills is a good motivator, but in my case I just can't stand to Throw Away good stuff. Spend time and effort to get a really good thing and don't need it anymore. But, there is someone out there that can use it and will appreciate having it. Freecycle is just great. Lots less clutter in my closets and garage and I have the pleasure of knowing that someone out there is making good use of it. And, if you need something, just ASK for it. Somebody out there has been stumbling over one and would like to pass it on to you.

Freecycle is one absolutely terrific concept. Join the group in your town and maybe the ones adjoining.

I do. I signed up for my local town and the next town over. I offered some large and small appliances and ended up taking one range and a lot of paint and computer games.

It is a great concept but sometimes I get the impression that my fellow-freecyclers are becoming fanatical on the subject and would rather spend a lot of gas and effort to keep something small from being discarded.
