Most newer head units have decent enough power to run the mids and highs thru good aftermarket speakers. You should, at the very least, get some after market tweeters to enhance spatial separation. So, find some quality subs(not the most expensive) that have a good sensitivity rating (spl/ 1 watt) and either use the air space recommendations provided to build your own box with independent enclosures for each sub or pay some reputable car audio shop to do it for you. 12's will give the best overall sound but remember, two twelves equal one 15 in air movement. So if you want the biggest bass and you have room, 15's for sure. One other thing, square boxes cancel out back waves so use an angled box if you can. Hope this was helpful.

Match the watts RMS of each channel to each watts RMS of each sub...

-or-

Match the total watts RMS of the amp bridged (if bridgeable) to the total watts RMS of both subs at the required impedance.
