No, cats aren't that smart. They are having a lot of fun trying to cat the laser, so what if they don't cat it, they are having fun. I've hardly ever seen my cat have so much fun running after the light. Never seems to upset the cat that she can't catch anything. She loses interest all too quickly to care. She goes after something else.

My cat begs me to play with him using the laser toy. He just loves the thrill of the chase. There are other things he can catch if he wants to but he gets tired of those. So, I guess cats aren't so different than people after all. They always want what they can't have.

I don't think its torture or the cat would walk off. From what I've seen cats enjoy trying to catch the beam. We always let them "catch" it for a few seconds so they will feel they are winning.

no its fun for the cat we have seven cats and are biggest we call him peat-puma he will go to the laser pointer and cry for one of us to play with it...another one of are cats is always getting out and the laser is the only way to get him back into the house..he falls for it all the time. cats need the exercise and they enjoy the hunt ..if a cat does not like something believe me he/she will let you know

I used to have a cat that would chase any form of light. They're no more a form of torture than any other toy. They have fun chasing it, and they don't know that they can't catch it.

I don't think so. No more than playing with crinkle balls is a form of torture because they can't eat it.
When the cat gets tired of playing he'll stop playing.

If you think it's mean, try tossing your cat a small treat when you're done playing with the laser, so s/he thinks they "caught" it. xD
I usually give my kitty a treat after playtime anyway.

No, My cats love to play with the laser. Even though they don't always catch it they don't take it personally. It's not like their going to hate you and send you threatning text messesges like,"I'm going to **** on your bed if you won't let me have that laser!BEWARE!"
