He was a sexually neurotic freak, and "compensation" for him took the form of perpetually patting himself on the back for never getting his schlong wet.

You must not have read the same Bible I have, because Paul does not spend a lot of time boastin about himself, in fact his only real boast is how awesome God is and Paul does that frequently in his letters.
He talks about Jesus and His plan all the time, that's the point of everything He wrote.

Sho...don't you have anything else to do. Try reading the Bible dang it and finding your own answers (I am being a smart butt, I suspect you were a Christian previously based on the amount of Biblical knowledge you possess and that you ask questions you already know the answers to).

Paul spent most of his time writing to the new and emerging church communities and the persecuted Christians about how to manage things. He took time to write words of encouragment to those apostles who were with him. Much of the time I understand, he was writing from jail or from a place in hiding.

Paul made no bones about the fact that he had some personal problems, though we never are told exactly what they are. I really have never had the feeling he wrote about how great he was as opposed to talking about CHRISTIANITY.

Actually paul only mentioned Jesus's death & resurrection.

Paul NEVER MET JESUS

Paul knew NOTHING about Jesus.

The reason is that Jesus probably never existed, and Paul was just latching on to a popular savior cult of the time... (there were MANY savior cults during that time.. here are 16 that existed BEFORE Christianity)

He was a bit vain, I'll give you that.

Ok, my answer will be that he wanted to show others that even the worst sort of person could find favor with the Lord, as he did.

He wrote what He was inspired to write.

His story is especially important to his ministry. He talks about how horrible he was, and how great God has made him. Not how great he was, but what Christ living in him has accomplished.

Because people were always trying to discredit him, and he had to respond to his critics.
