I've had some beef in my refrigerator for a few days and I wanted to cook it in the crock pot. I opened the sealed container it was in and smelled the meat. It doesn't smell bad but it has a kind of clear residue on it. Is that just condensation, or has it gone bad?

It might be in the first stages of breaking down, before the smell comes and it gets slimy, I would cook it or throw it out. The crock pot(If you prepare it today) should resolve any issues about the meat being less than fresh. But if its that way today, don't wait any longer. The rule is if you aren't using it today, then freeze it until you are ready.

If is smells OK then it probably is OK. If you have a cat, cut off a small piece of the meat and let the cat sniff it. If the cat eats the meat it is fine. Cats are very particular about meat and won't eat anything that is spoiled. Just rinse the meat off in water and use it if it passes the sniff test. It will be fine.

Any kind of meat will hold in a refer for about 5 days. Beyond that, you need to marinade it with something salty (soy or wortershire) and / or alchol...

If you keep your fridge ultra-cold like me, you can probably get away with it. If not, dump it. You should either use meat the day you buy it or the next next day, or freeze what you won't use in that time frame.
