I believe that the politicians should have given the military commanders what they asked for in the beginning. A minimum of 450,000 ground troops, with optimum being 700,000

If you are going to have a war, have a war. It’s not fun, it is not good, but don’t do it half a**

Let our soldiers fight as they are trained to. Overwhelming force. You go in with a force 4 times superior to the expected size of the enemy contingent. You go in and lock the place down.

Surround the town and barricade it, and give 24 hours notice for women and children to leave. Then you go in house to house, street to street and kill anyone with a gun. If you find a house with weapons hidden in it, demolish the house. If a building is ues to launch an attack, that building gets flattened.

And last but not least, you roll down to Mr. sadr’s mosque, drag him out into the middle of the street and slit his throat for all to see and leave him dying in the street.

Iraqi’s only respond to force.

First, let me say that I was completely against the motives for the war in Iraq, and I despise bush and believe that he should be impeached. However, we ****ed that country up, and as such, it is our responsibility to help sustain some sort of stability before we leave. There are not, nor have ever been enough troops in Iraq to achieve that goal. The current proposed 'surge' doesn't come close to putting enough boots on the ground to improve the situation. We need more troops, and better cooridination
between American and Iraqi forces. It would also be nice if they allowed the Iraqi people to vote for their own government, instead of picking between some hand-picked canditates who then appointed the rest of the government....

and to the idiot who says we didn't need foriegn intervention in our civil war: uh, without the aid of the French, its widely recognized that we probably would have lost....

If we plan on leaving in the next couple of years, we should send more troops in to finish training enough Iraqi soldiers and police.

Personally, I think we should turn Camp Liberty/Victory into a garrison post like Germany or Korea. Treat it like a hardship tour in Korea, with maximum 13 month tours. That way, we have a prepositioned, fully acclimated fighting force of, say a division, to act as a quick reaction force in case of later instability in the region. Plus, it would allow us to keep an eye on the soldiers and police even after handing over the reigns fully.

No. The Iraqi government needs to increase the size of ITS military force in Iraq. Why? Its their own damn country, that's why. I'm sick of being the world's baby-sitter.

The top military thinkers with the best of intelligence disagree. Anybody else with a sure answer is simply announcing his arrogance. My opinion is that, lacking strong reasons to think otherwise, it's best to go with the go with the opinion of those in the best position to have an informed opinion. That would be the National Command Authority and people who wear stars on their shoulders, and not much of anybody else.

Yes. Give the troops what they need and the ability to do the job. Leave the politics out of it and this war might end.

Our military has not lost a war yet that the politicians stayed out of.

I don't think we have enough troops in our whole Military to stabilize Iraq, I would say we need at least 5 Million troops. Iraq is large ! 150,000-170,000 just ain't gonna cut it !

It's time to bring 'em home. Let them work out their own problems. It's time we STOPPED being the world's babysitter and took care of our problems at home first instead of running out and trying to solve everyone else's while our own country falls apart.

No. This war is a waste of time and money.

We didn't need any foreign interference when we fought our civil war.
