Im just wondering if dogs can remember songs? One of my sister's has a couple dogs, one of which (a six-month old great pieranese), gets very excited and jumps around when I play a song called "Alice", by The Sisters Of Mercy; it's almost as if he likes that song and is dancing to it. What do you think?

Yes. I had a Chow Chow that I used to take for a walk everyday when the Young And The Restless came on. After awhile when he would hear the theme song he would run around in circles and act excited because he knew that was the cue to go outside.

I'm sure he remembers the song - but he most likely also associates it with something. For example, perhaps when that song was played, someone danced with him or fed him or did something that he loved. So when he hears that song now, he associates it with that event. It's the same thing when you speak a certain way, give a command or act a certain way. Dogs associate sounds and behaviors with various events. Humans do this too. A song can bring back lots of memories - good or bad - for us.

One person in our class used to practice the long down exercise while watching Star Trek. One day she was running late, when the Star Trek theme music came on the dog ran to the living room and lay down!

I like Sisters of Mercy, I used to have their album Floodland.

Not really remember so much as react to what they are currently hearing. They will react the same way every time that song comes on. My pug likes cumbia kings.

I think dogs are very smart and has no reason for them not to understand it.
