I know some people still send flowers, but is there something else I could send or do? He's having a viewing Wednesday night and a memorial service Thursday morning. What gesture would be appropriate since he's not being buried?

Since he's not being buried, there won't be a gravesite to leave the flowers, and his widow will end up with tons of flowers. Is there something I could give instead of flowers?

When there was a death in my household, a big basket of food arrived from some people. Since we had so much to deal with and so little desire to do the cooking and grocery shopping, that was a big help. Otherwise, a memorial donation to an appropriate charity is a good thought.

The flowers will be put next to the coffin at the service and later on the widow can either take the flowers with her or leave them at the flowerfield that's next to the building where her husband is being cremated. Do sent flowers. I was very happy when people did that when my mother was being cremated. They looked wonderful during the ceremony and gave me the feeling that my mother was getting a worthy goodbye.

Flowers are always good, they probally would be displayed at the service, (my mother was cremated). If you feel funny about that a card will do followed by a donation to the person's favorite charity. Good Luck!

Let it come from the heart and all will good!

You could give a plant, you could donate to a charity of their choice(even if it is at a later time). You can simply just give a card with a heartfelt note written in it.

You can offer to run some errands for the widow or cook a meal for the widow.

Just because he isn't being buried doesn't imply there will not be a gravesite. Some people opt to have a gravesite anyway so people can still pay their respects.

I never send flowers. They are useless to a dead person.
I always send a donation to a charity in their name. Cancer, Doctors without Borders, Heart and Stroke Foundation, World Vision, whatever...

I would not send flowers to the funeral home, rather, send a nice bouquet or house plant to her home along with a heart-felt note.
