I have a 10yo dog with heart disease & breathing problems. Around 2hours ago he started shaking excessively for 1 hour. I tried everything but couldn't stop him shaking. He seems confused & is also avoiding human attention & sleeping LOADS. Hes been drinking & urinating a lot too. He fainted twice on friday & was rushed to emergency vet who changed medication to corvental 2x day. Hes curently taking enalapril, fureousimide & corventol. I nearly rang the vet but the shivering shaking stopped & then it started again for a few mins & stopped again. This is a lap dog & he loves affection 24/7 & does NOT avoid shake & for the record he wasn't cold. His nose was warm & dry. He's laying next to me now & I need advice. What could this be? Hes been drinking more today. Please help. Thanks

He does have seizures but not like this. When he has a seizure he collapses, vomits & loses control of his bladder & bowels & fits. Literally fits. His legs go everywhere & his eyes rolls up in his head. After the seizure he is fine. He has mild Epilepsy (isnt on meds for it) & has a seizure once a year. This definitely wasn't a seizure. I'm really worried its related to his fainting on friday but the vet was useless.

His medication is for his Heart Disease (heart failure) & respiratory disease & furosemide is to remove the excess fluid from his lungs as he has a fluid buildup sometimes.

Sorry I didn't read all of your kind answers. I took him straight to the Vet which also in a PetAid emergency hospital. He was kept in over night and given a drip containing potasium & IV Fluid. Diagnosis was very low potasium levels & the vet went mad that the previous vet didn't test him for this. Taking him back friday for blood tests. Still acting strange today & looking around a bit but hes energetic again thank god. Thanks again.

Sounds like he was having a seizure. Take him to the vet again right away and explain what happend. He may have to be hospitalized to get proper treatment.

Addition: Seizures are not always the exact same way, there are different variations, some are more severe than others. He definitely needs to see the vet ASAP.

Your dog is getting up there in age, but this does not mean that he does not have many happy years ahead of him. The top three questions to ask yourself are these:
1. Is he eating normaly?
2. Is the drinking normaly?
3. Is he acting normal?

Working at a vets office I have learned that these are the three staple questions when starting to diagnose a problem. If you answered no to any of the above problems (and your vet is not currently treating your animal for this) take him in right away. Something is obiously wrong and it may be treatable. If you feel that your vet is not giving you the attention that your pet needs, change doctors. You sound like a loving careing indevidual and if you dont feel that your pet is getting better get treatment right away. As far as the seizures there are many different types and sometimes animals dont get them that often so they dont need meds for it. It is possible that if your pet did have the occasional episode before (and I read your discription) he may be developing smaller ones in his older years that do not hit him as hard as the ones you are used to seeing. This is only a suggestion though and one possible rout to investigate. If for nothing else take your friend in to ease your own mind, you may have some rough waters ahead of you with this pup and I wish you the best.

Take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Shaking, along with unexplained lethargy, is an emergency sign usually linked to a problem with the nervous or muscular system. As others said, it also sounds like he's having seizures which might have something to do with the new medicine. This is a time for an emergency vet visit. Good luck.

This sounds like your dog is having seizures. You need to let the vet know this is happening as the meds may need adjusting or changed again.

Sounds like seizures. What are the meds for though. They may have something to do with it.

Take to a VET

Well, your dog might have another illness or if he is stressed he will start shaking too but just give him alot of attention and love and tell your vet about what's going on and if you can help your dog in any way. Well hope I helped you out Peace!
